Now London-based BridgeU has raised a seed round of $2.5m led by Octopus Investments, with participation from Fresco Capital, Seedcamp, and well-known UK/US investors including Jonnie Goodwin (Lepe Partners/Founders Forum) and Deborah Quazzo.
The new investment was led by Runa Capital, with participation from a slew of heavy-hitters in the budding fields of education-focused and government-focused investments like Reach Newschools Capital, Fresco Capital, the Govtech Fund, and Kapor Capital.
Investors in the seed funding include CNN co-founder Reese Schonfeld, MediaBistro founder Laurel Touby, former Yahoo executive Ross Levinsohn, former NewsCorp/AOL exec Jonathan Miller, Science Inc. founder Michael Jones, Fresco Capital, 1517 Fund, Social Starts and Wavemaker Partners.
General Assembly was worth $440 million after its last, $70 million investment round, according to a report in Axios, which means that early stage investors will see a nice return on their investment while many later stage backers — including Wellington Management and Fresco Capital are looking at some pretty flat returns.
