The stage-specific RNAi before 3L significantly increased the frequency of lethality, and about 75% of the adult flies had abnormalities in the formation of their wings and abdominal stripes (Figure 4B).
For populations of mir-35 -41(nDf50 ) or mir-35 -41(gk262 ) embryos, the penetrance of lethality depends on the temperature at which the animals are grown, with lower frequency of lethality at 15° or 20° and nearly complete lethality at 25° (Alvarez-Saavedra and Horvitz 2010; Massirer et al. 2012).
In a dominant lethal mutation assay, the frequency of postimplantation lethality was not significantly increased over the control level.
The profile frequency of synthetic lethality in the wild-type and JJ1549 was found to be similar but the average level of embryonic lethality was different.
However, this combination simultaneously resulted in additional severe pattern effects and high frequency of embryo lethality because TOAD2/RPK2 has adopted additional functions in radial pattern formation [ 21, 23] and as regulator of meristem development [ 24].
First, PINK1 MUL1 and parkin MUL1 double null mutants show a high frequency of pupal lethality as compared with single mutants (data not shown), while double null mutants of PINK1 parkin have the same level of viability as single mutants (Clark et al., 2006; Park et al., 2006).
Because earlier experiments during the generation of the DS-epi1 KO mice in pure C57BL/6 genetic background indicated a high frequency of perinatal lethality, mice from the mixed C57BL/6 129/SvJ genetic background were back-crossed into mice with pure NFR genetic background.
The N.R.A.'s proposal to station armed guards in the nation's elementary and secondary schools — all hundred thousand of them, or all hundred and thirty thousand, if LaPierre means private and parochial schools to be included — would be a singularly wasteful, ineffective, and dangerous way to reduce the frequency and lethality of Sandy Hook-type atrocities.
Moreover, during mouse development, p53 null mutations cause a high frequency of neural tube defects and lethality that preferentially affects female embryos [ 50, 51], and interestingly, this sex difference appears to result from the number of X chromosomes rather than the presence or absence of the Y [ 52].
Supplementary Table S3 shows frequency of biomarker utilisation (top 5%) for lethality.
These survivors do not appear to have acquired linked genetic suppressors of lethality because they continue to transmit the R11 insertion to homozygous progeny at reduced frequency.
