ROME (AP) -- An Italian court on Thursday convicted the founder of Parmalat, Calisto Tanzi, 71, of fraudulent bankruptcy and criminal association in the failure his dairy empire.
The accusations of fraudulent bankruptcy and criminal association in the trial were the most serious charges against Mr. Tanzi stemming from the 2003 collapse, Europe's largest corporate failure, which was precipitated when Parmalat acknowledged its debt was eight times higher than previously claimed.
