Thirdly, the fracture angle a, which is the angle between σ1 and the fracture (Figure 5; Additional file 1: Figure S2), can be used to derive effective shear parameters (e.g., Richter 1989; Twiss and Moores 1992).
The flexural bond strength tests were performed in a universal testing machine DL-10000, EMIC, São José dos Pinhais, Brazil), with the load applied at a constant 1.5 mm/min speed until fracture (Figure 1).
Indeed, a seismic velocity contrast (or pore pressure contrast) is not observed on the shallow splay fault, whereas a low-velocity zone is observed widely beneath the WBSF and can be interpreted as a well-developed fracture (Figure 2a; Tsuji et al. 2014).
X-rays are needed to diagnose the fracture and the angulation of the fracture (Figure 5).
There may be some fractures that cause instability of the ankle including a lateral process fracture of the talus, anterior process fracture of the calcaneus, Jones fracture or Pesudo-Jones fracture (Figure 14).
If the patient cannot bear weight after what is a suspected ankle sprain, then the physician will need to get an x-ray to check if the patient has a fracture (Figure 4).
The almost identical strain at fracture (Figure 5A) is due to the similar stretching mechanism and unfolding of the proteins at the initial stages of loading.
