In both experiments, participants listened to emotional sentences expressing one of four emotions (anger, fear, disgust, happiness) or neutral sentences.
Results report significant differences between metaphorical and non-metaphorical translations for the four emotions analysed, pointing to a difference in their emotional impact on the recipients of the translation.
These values are both higher than the human recognition efficiencies cited in [1] (η = 3.72 and η = 3.55 for emotional state classification based on original knocking motions in [35] (four emotions, point-light display) and [36] (five emotions, full video)), indicating that the style component was accurately perceived in both our original and synthesized sequences.
This is not an exaggeration, and in addition the "such and such" are frequently limited to four emotions, as if that would ever be enough to describe our deepest emotional states.
The other four emotions are love, laughter, sadness and a supportive cheer.
For the experiments, subjects used videos or music to recall a series of memories that each evoked one the four emotions, as well as a no-emotion baseline.
