Long & Foster dates to 1968, when Foster launched it with partner Henry Long in a 600-square-foot office in Fairfax, Va., 12 years after Foster graduated from the Virginia Military Institute.
So a year after MacGillivray made his discovery, Australia's largest brewer, Fosters, launched Sub Zero – a sweetened alcoholic soda – to tap into the market.
Foster had launched Monument Records in 1958 from a base in Washington, D.C., but relocated the company to Nashville in 1960.
