Comparisons with the rat brain strongly suggest that the patterns of hippocampal formation projections to the posterior cingulate/retrosplenial areas are conserved.
Furthermore, although some hippocampal formation projections to the lateral prefrontal cortex have previously been described (Goldman-Rakic et al. 1984; Barbas and Blatt 1995), these efferents again principally arise from the most posterior part of the presubiculum.
