As you know, I am the goodwill ambassador of the Congo forest, and we have established this fund which we call the Congo forestry fund, to try to help the governments in that region protect those forests so that we have standing forests.

Through Fonafifo, its national forestry financing fund – which includes a specific agroforestry component – 10,000 contracts have been signed with smallholders over the past eight years, paying them to plant more than 3.5 million trees on farms.
Given these conclusions, in designing future programs for community forestry development, funds should be made available specifically for promotion and training in Type 1 and 2 communities.

Data for the period 1990 to 2012 showed that these six key forestry programmes have funded afforestation area of 78.2 million ha, contributing 62% of the total planted area (SFA, 2013a).
