In the light of the ever-growing role of technology foresight and forecasting in strategic thinking [2], the most recent German national Foresight process4 identifies future global social challenges relating to Germany that will be relevant between now and 2030 with an emphasis on the social consequences [3, 4, 5].
From the pre-market perspectives of R&D and innovation management through successful marketing and commercialization of engineered innovations, technology foresight and forecasting pivot on the entrepreneur's unrelenting persistence to pursue a vision and unclouded prescience of exactly what vision to pursue.
The futures studies community does this now for decades, often along the distinction between foresight and forecast [5, 6, 7].
Most studies do not only foresight (or forecast, predict, extrapolate) but they aim at developing specific policies to reach a stronger, greener, less CO2-intensive and more user-friendly transport industry.
Following Asselt et al. (2010), the three proposed categories of future studies include: forecasting, foresight and normative future studies.
In the initial years, the results of these future-oriented research processes (forecasting, foresight, etc). of the think tanks were mostly considered as military or trade secrets and therefore published very rarely.
For example in the special issues of Foresight or Technological Forecasting and Social Change on Strategic Foresight [1, 2], in the European Planning Studies journal or in books, such as What Works: Case Studies in the Practice of Foresight [3], Adaptive Governance for a Changing World [4] or The Evolution of Strategic Foresight: Navigating Public Policy Making [5]; to name just a few.
After a systematic review of existing workforce planning, forecasting, and foresight methodologies, we developed a new model for foresight of the Health Supply and Medical Professionals Education in Iran.
