The study paper noted that previous studies that accounted only for the place of birth could be misleading, as some researchers may have migrated at a young age and hold U.S. citizenship, making them "very different culturally and linguistically than foreign-born faculty who remained in their home country for their undergraduate degree".
As a result we have a very large number of faculty in engineering and science field who are foreign born.
