Comparisons between the favourable and unfavourable groups were performed using the chi-square or Fisher's exact tests for frequencies.
On the contrary, unfavourable groups included three repeat genotypes with a G allele (2GC/3G, 3G/3C, 3G/3G).
Figure 1 reveals a significantly higher risk of relapse (RR: 2.23, 95%CI 1.23 4.04; P=0.006) and death (RR: 3.68, 95% CI 1.75 7.75, P=0.0002) for patients in the unfavourable group, whose tumours tended to be characterised by ER/PR negativity, expression of p53 and overexpression of HER2/neu.
For endothelial cell proliferation and vessel maturation, 16 patients from the unfavourable group and 18 patients from the favourable group were randomly selected.
The large majority belonged to the low intermediate group (n = 44, 59%) and the unfavourable group (n = 25, 34%).
Therefore, a possible explanation for unfavourable outcome in group H could be this bias as patients with chronic renal failure are known to have an inferior outcome after surgery, including cardiac surgery.
For these reasons, further research is needed to find more efficient treatment strategies for prognostically unfavourable patient groups.
In recent years, there has been substantial progress in perioperative intensive care management in decreasing the risk for unfavourable outcomes in this group of patients [ 6, 7].
Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis revealed a higher cutoff value for unfavourable outcome (CPC 3 to 5) with a specificity of 100% in the hypothermia group (78.9 μg/l) compared to the NH group (26.9 μg/l).
The SNPs showing a significant risk effect were then incorporated into a secondary analysis for the total number of unfavourable genotype groups carried, adjusting for the same factors listed above.
