Siegmund et al. [3] reported this behavior for their data, supporting a model for multiple CSCs.
Importantly, Bergman et al. use a cross-sectional study design, with 1,200 subjects in their 6 11th decades of life to show experimental support for the buffering hypothesis; their data support the idea that CETP VV genotype buffers the deleterious effects of an LPA genotype.
They had an absurdly small sample size of 32 people, a tiny eight-person control group, who didn't really look like good controls, and produced a contorted argument for why their data supported their original hypothesis.
