A unified approach is presented for the establishment of design conditions and acceptance criteria for performance objectives associated with different return intervals.
Using the list generated for performance objectives and matching list of determinants, a matrix (performance objectives vs. determinants) was constructed for each stakeholder.
For each performance objective, the most important and changeable determinants are stated based on theoretical models for behavioural change.
In this step, each behavioural objective is broken down into performance objectives, and personal and external determinants are specified for each performance objective.
The identified determinants for each performance objective were divided into personal determinants (risk perception and knowledge, attitude, skills, self-efficacy, assertiveness, and outcome expectations) and external determinants (safety and equality, and support).
Examples of performance objectives for owners were: assess adequacy of shop safety, and become familiar with safety improvements.
Examples of performance objectives for employees were: assess machine safety, and participate in health and safety decision making.
An example of performance objectives for adolescents using condoms correctly and consistently (target behavior) may be: buy condoms, carry condoms, negotiate condom use with partner, correctly apply condoms, and maintain condom use over time (Schaalma et al., 1996).
Step 2, Tasks 3 and 4 focus on CWH and are used to select changeable behaviour determinants of performance objectives for the behavioural and environmental outcomes with a matrix of change objectives being created that links the determinants to performance objectives.
For the injured worker for example, one performance objective is the worker attempts to RTW on modified duties [ 8, 27].
