A closer reading of my diary for that year allows me to reveal that during this period I was assistant manager of the Bowl-Hio Family Recreational Center near Dayton, Ohio.
This was in 1985, and the above is verbatim from my diary entry for 16 August.

Yet when I re-read my entry for Thursday 17 April 1969, my diary reminds me that I played squash, had David Jason round to lunch, walked over Hampstead Heath to Kenwood House, and took a phone call from David Frost about a rumour he'd heard that I was planning a new show with John Cleese.
He wrote My Diary for r&b singer Rosa Brooks, I've Been Trying for Little Ray and Slow Jerk for Ronnie & the Pomona Casuals.
I started to think about this project at the beginning of 2003, and there is an entry in my diary for January when I found myself in Baltimore for the "Poe toaster night", which is held on the eve of Poe's birth.
