Dr. Larry Gant and Community Scholars Program students in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor implement a settlement house model approach for learning and practicing community work.
The recommended actions include identifying and assisting orphans who are out of school, and supporting schools as a front-line response for learning and as community resources and safe havens.

During humanitarian crises, when children are most at risk, child-friendly temporary learning spaces will provide a protective and stimulating learning environment for 160,000 children and protective learning and community emergency services (PLaCES) will be provided to nearly 110,000 children.

Those in her community recognized her passion for learning and designated her for the position.
The failure to appreciate and internalise these two sometimes contradictory aims by development practitioners resulted in missed opportunities for adaptive learning and greater community engagement that could be potentially transformative to rural development practice in Kenya and beyond.
The main achievements of this particular student-led clinic were offering increased access to help in a disadvantaged community, offering the opportunity for collaborative learning for both students and community members and helping to renew the local workforce.
"There is a small amount of technology, but that is not the focus of what we do with kids," said Emily Schreiner, associate curator of education for family and community learning at the museum.
They also identified the need for learning communities for supervisors, similar to those enacted for students and their supervisors.
