"I really wouldn't say he's much for Christians either," said a 22-year-old man called Matt.
"They won't let us rebuild, but we cannot just wait for them, either," said Mr. Abe, 43.
"And they won't be any better off for it, either," said Mr. Fowler, who added that his members detested the notion.
"I don't think there's support for the commonwealth as it is and there's no support in the United States Congress for statehood either," said Edwin Cortes, 44, a former claim adjuster who was arrested in 1983.
"If a car is following me, it's unmarked with no lights and doesn't look like cops, I wouldn't stop for them either," said Mohammad Walid, an 18-year-old former classmate of Villanueva's at Chatsworth High School.
People either said go for it or burn it.

"No problem for the neighbours either," says Rob. "Some have kids, but people are tolerant here.
