To confirm the atopic/healthy state, a blood sample was drawn and analysed for total IgE and specific IgE antibodies to a panel of common inhalant allergens, namely: dog, cat, horse, birch, timothy, mugwort, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, D. farinae and Cladosporium (Phadiatop, Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden).
Skin-prick tests (SPTs) were done with a battery of common inhalant allergens (ALK, Madrid, Spain).
Atopic status was assessed at baseline using skin prick tests (Phazet; Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden) for eight common inhalant allergens: dog epithelium; cat fur; pollen of timothy grass, Parietaria, and birch; the house dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus; and the molds Alternaria tenuis and Cladosporium herbarum (Martin et al. 1997; Wuthrich et al. 1996).
Among the 20 sera tested by inhalant panel, for Housedust, most common inhalant allergen in Korean population [ 7], RIDA Allergy Screen was negative but MAST Optigen and Polycheck Allergy were positive on 4 sera (Table 3).
UniCAP Phadiatop is a single laboratory test designed to determine the presence or absence of specific IgE to a variety of common inhalants.

We also found homozygosity of the rs4950928 G allele to be positively associated with atopic asthma (defined as as a positive test for specific IgE to at least one of four common inhalant allergens combined with self-reported physician-diagnosed asthma) with the highest OR among never-smokers indicating that smoking does not enhance the OR.
