Following the restructuring of AT&T in 1984, NSF took advantage of various new options for national-level digital backbone services for the NSFNET.
In addition to hosting its own antennas serving thirty satellites, TSS acts as the center-point of KSAT's operations and provides backbone services for the high Arctic Svalbard Satellite Station (SvalSat) and the Antarctic Troll Satellite Station (TrollSat).
The latter raise the demand for service adapters that are able to work with the backbone services of the data infrastructure (e.g. iRODS, NAGIOS, etc).
When the U.S. National Science Foundation decommission its NSFNET backbone and provided a framework for the competitive provisioning of Internet backbone service in the United States, market economics became the critical path for Internet development.
In general, the local service antenna has a smaller transmission range, and the backbone service antenna has a larger transmission range, i.e., P L < P O < P D. In the MAC layer, we assume the TDMA scheme as specified by the 802.16d mesh mode, and is used for both the local and the backbone WMNs, and the link rate is set by the AMC scheme.
I doubt many phone networks are worried by this development, but it does show just how powerful Twitter's service could potentially become, as a backbone for services like Phweet.
The story so far: Bandwidth.com, which provides the VoIP backbone for services including Google Voice and Twilio, is launching an alternative mobile carrier called Republic Wireless.
The proposed algorithm is to find an optimal configuration of backbone network for backbone provider (BP) and distribution network for internet service provider (ISP), properly meeting two-aspect engineering goals: i.e., average message delay and connection costs.
