Proton density-weighted T2 FSE is of intermediate signal adjacent to the low signal subcortical bony plate, which allows to better visualise intrachondral abnormalities and lesions near to the cortical bone; whereas with T2-weighted FSE cartilage has a low signal intensity, which gives a high contrast to bright synovial fluid, resulting in better delineation of cartilage surface defects.
This sequence maximizes contrast among grey matter, white matter and cerebrospinal fluid and provides high-resolution delineation of cortical and subcortical structures.
However, fluid identification, pressure estimation and hydrocarbon column delineation can be difficult in complex reservoirs and particularly in the case of tight reservoirs.
Despite clear visual evidence for the close association of vent organisms and hydrothermalism, the sulfur and oxygen isotope composition of pore fluids did not permit delineation of a biotic signal separate from an abiotic signal.
Functional images are high quality with minimal geometric distortions and T2* blurring and permit adequate spatial delineation between white matter and cerebrospinal fluid.

However, because these procedures are somewhat arbitrary, and effects such as fluid oscillations, droplet flattening during flight, and refraction may introduce bias as well, uncertainties in boundary delineations and diameter measurements can translate to volume and mass uncertainties easily exceeding 10%.
