Mr. Brown first flew the corridor in 1997, months after earning his license.
"The first time I did it, I got on the radio and just blurted out, 'Wow, this is beautiful!' These other pilots radioed in saying, 'Yeah, that's why we do it.' " Mr. Riethof, a flight instructor and retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, said pilots nationwide request air charts so they can fly the corridor themselves.
In addition, many existing procedures that have been treated as "Suggested" items for flying the corridor will now be mandatory, including operating landing lights; maintaining a speed of 140 kn or less while flying in the corridor; monitoring and announcing on the area Common Traffic Advisory Frequency; and travelling along the west shore when southbound and along the east shore when northbound.
He has flown the Hudson River corridor before, as recently as last month.
In early June, Jarrah sought to fly the "Hudson Corridor," a low altitude "hallway" along the Hudson River that passed several New York landmarks, including the World Trade Center.
This is why pilots come from all over the country, the globe, even, to fly the Hudson River Corridor, a designated flight zone that runs over the river between the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Verrazano Bridge, to get this close to the world's most famous city.
And for this man to have felt that he was right or justified or that it was O.K. to send me flying across the corridor is just ridiculous".
"We need an express lane for people flying through the corridor that are not part of the local traffic," he said.
Pilots will be required to have appropriate charts available, and to familiarize themselves with the applicable rules before flying in the corridor.
Commercial planes will also be able to fly in the corridors, particularly during bad weather, during the Christmas holidays.
