The SEP event intensity and GOES X-ray flare size are poorly correlated.
We examine the correlation of SEP intensity with flare size and CME properties.
In fact, soft X-ray flare size is not a good indicator of SEP association.
Gopalswamy et al. (2014b) investigated 59 major eruptions with flare size ≥M5.
The remaining 15 SEP events were either back-sided or associated with weaker flares (flare size < M5.0).
