Expression profiling studies in fish indicate tissue specificity of miRNAs in some of these organs (Wienholds et al. 2005; Kapsimali et al. 2007; Kloosterman et al. 2007; Tessmar-Raible et al. 2007; Bizuayehu et al. 2012b).
Indeed, results from over 35 labs (including those of Beachy, Dierks, Ingham, Nusslein-Volhard, Matsui, Melton, Reya, Robbins, Roussel, Scott, Tabin and Watkins) on species ranging from humans to fish support the specificity of this drug.
We show here that in addition to acting as a pattern recognition receptor with multiple specificities, fish Vg is able to bind to the surface of macrophages (Fig. 6) and enhance macrophage phagocytosis (Fig. 5).
Negative results obtained with RNA from four other fish viruses confirmed the specificity of the test.
