Like HTC's Touch Diamond, the 5800 employs a resistive rather than capacitive touchscreen designed primarily for stylus not finger input.
Even iOS bears the mark, if only in the fact that it often fails to take advantage of finger input in anything other than superficial ways.
But the rest of us would prefer a user interface that's originally designed for finger input and hardware efficiency — like Android or webOS.
However tablets are either fully held in one hand and interacted with by index finger, or sit in a stand and accept multiple finger input.

The crucial issue though was that the sensor itself seemed awfully finicky and wouldn't always correctly accept a user's finger inputs.
The Japanese gentleman pecking out missives on top of a table was kind enough to let me try it anyway, and while the camera clearly noticed my hand it wouldn't track any of my finger inputs.
Well, to be fair, Google implemented it the same way it has always been, just switching three-finger input to two-finger.
