A sacral canal running down through the centre of the sacrum represents the end of the vertebral canal; the functional spinal cord ends at about the level of the first sacral vertebra, but its continuation, the filum terminale, can be traced through the sacrum to the first coccygeal vertebra.
Filum labyrinthi is similar to, but not identical with, Cogitata et Visa.
It consists not only of the fragment Filum labyrinthi (Bacon III [1887], 493 504), but also includes the Abecedarium nouum naturae (OFB XIII, xxi), which was planned as a preface to all of section 4 "[to] demonstrate the whole process of the mind" (OFB XIII, xxii).
