We also found strong evidence for hierarchical structure in both nuclear and mitochondrial SNPs through an analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA: see additional file 2); significance of variance components was found in all three SNP sets.

We identified seven patterns of gene expression (profiles 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13, Additional file 9) with significance (p < 0.05, Figure 4A).
