"This whole no jobs thing, like economic downfall, that's just, to me that's just understandable that people feel that way but also kind of shortsighted," explains Burgess as she points out all of the artisans on her Fibershed Project map (i.e. fiber farmer, knitter, weaver, designer, seamstress, felter spinner, cotton farmer, natural dyer, mill owner).
Artisans in the Hongshan culture there probably used bamboo fibers to abrade stones into jewelry and animal amulets.
The jacitara palm (Desmoncus polyacanthos Mart). is widely used by the artisans of the Amazon Basin region of Negro River, Brazil, and is known to provide excellent fiber characteristics and appearance.
They do it using a supply chain of more than 1,500 artisans in small knitting groups around the world, paying fair living wages and using organically grown fibers, low-impact dyes, and handmade fabrics.
There will be offerings for both the beginner and the veteran crafter, taught by big-shot artisans in the mediums of art clay, silver, polymer clay, bead making, soldering, jewelry design, mixed media, glass pendants, fiber arts, metalwork and wirework.
