A case of dengue fever is defined as a sudden onset of fever (equal or more than 38 degrees Celsius), with no evidence of other infection (particularly malaria, with rapid diagnostic test and/or thick blood smear negative), associated with one or more non specific symptoms including headache, myalgia, arthralgia and/or retro-orbital pains.
Fever greater than or equal to 38°C, abdominal pain or nausea were considered additional symptoms.
