The microstructure consists of a ferrous (martensitic or ferritic) matrix with a distribution of second phase particles corresponding to nanometric and submicrometric secondary carbides precipitated during heat treatment together with primary carbides.
The formation of hematite or maghemite from ferrous ions inside a polymer matrix via formation of iron hydroxide may be shown as Fe 2 + + 2 OH - → Fe OH 2 (8) 2 Fe OH 2 → Fe 2 O 3 + 3 H 2 O. (9).
In particular, coatings of hard-facing alloys, shape memory alloys, surface metal or intermetallic matrix composites and cermets on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys are included.
All of the matrices we measured consist primarily of ferrous olivine grains, but the grain sizes and porosities differ among matrices (e.g., Fig. 1).
In the RBT 04143 matrices 5 and 6, similar primary and secondary minerals were observed: kirschsteinite, Ca-pyroxene, Ca-phosphate, Fe, Ni-metal, kamacite, Fe-sulfide, Fe, Ni-sulfide, ferrous olivine and magnetite occur in these matrices (Fig. 1e, f and Additional file 1: Table S1).
It is possible that the addition of ascorbic acid from both the supplement and the food matrix promoted the absorption of the ferrous fumarate in the tablet supplement more than it promoted the absorption of the MDFP in the powder supplement.

In the LAP 02206 host matrix, Ca-pyroxene, awaruite, Fe, Ni-sulfide, ferrous olivine, sodalite and plagioclase were observed (Fig. 1c and Additional file 1: Table S1).
Most industries are usually looking for replacement of ferrous components with lighter and high strength alloys like Al metal matrix composites.
