Tonight in San Francisco, many of the Valley's stars are coming together for the second annual TechFellow Awards, a fellowship designed to help recognize some of the most accomplished leaders in technology — and to help foster further innovation by granting them $100,000 to invest in startups.
There are three ways to accomplish this: negotiate autonomy (and access to the requisite resources and space) with your postdoctoral research adviser, obtain a fellowship designed to facilitate your independence, or take advantage of one of the "junior investigator" programs intended for independent postdocs, which are growing in number, especially in Europe.
"Clearly, he had risen up through the Democratic ranks," said Mark Dubowitz, the executive director of the foundation, where fellowships are designed for "young and upcoming national security people in D.C". of all views, Mr. Dubowitz said.
Its Long-Term Fellowships are designed to encourage new and innovative basic research--and mobility.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation hopes to attack those barriers head-on with a new postdoctoral fellowship program designed to advance innovation and entrepreneurship among scientists.
