Fine silverware is on display in "Feeding Desire: Design and the Tools of the Table, 1500-2005," an unexpectedly alluring exhibition through Oct. 29 at the Cooper-Hewitt National DEastn Museum, on East 91st Street and Fifth Avenue.
Housed in an installation designed by AvroKO, "Feeding Desire" includes a table that is set for an elaborate dinner party of the Gilded Age, but it also lays out a contemporary view of tableware, with pieces by designers like Gio Ponti and Ted Muehling.
The behavioural assays began by providing a piece of FT pellet to the fish to trigger its feeding desire, followed with a TS pellet, and then another piece of FT pellet.
But it wasn't always thus, as visitors to the exhibition "Feeding Desire: Design and the Tools of the Table, 1500-2005" will discover.
At the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum (2 East 91st Street, 212-849-8400), "FEEDESIGNESIRE: DESIGN AND THE TOOLS OF THE TABLE" will explore the various means by which people have put food in their mouths with a display of five centuries (and 300 pieces) of flatware, cutlery and other dining accessories.
