While Pebble Beach Golf Links and Pinehurst Resort are open to the public, Bethpage is a daily fee course -- $31 on weekdays, $39 on weekends.
The Oaks in Pass Christian, Mississippi, in the gaming-driven Biloxi area, opened last May: It's an upscale daily fee course designed and built in-house by Landmark National's growing staff.
The National Golf Foundation lists 2,361 municipal courses and 9,105 daily fee courses, those opened to the public but owned privately.
"The continuing increase in participation from more disadvantaged groups is very encouraging, as is the absence of any signal that they are turning away from higher fee courses," she said.
"We will be the first high-end daily-fee course in Westchester.
A daily-fee course, like the six public courses in Westchester, does not require a club membership.
Pecan Valley, a daily-fee course that has been completely renovated, calls for exceptional accuracy, thanks to the profusion of its namesake trees bracketing most fairways.
But this year, for the first time in the tournament's 102 years, it will be played at a municipal daily-fee course, a fact that has earned it the nickname the People's Open.

Although Hudson Hills charges $75 for a weekend round of golf (including a golf cart), far more than the $43 fee at the other county courses, its fees are less than those at a popular daily-fee course, Centennial Golf Club in Putnam County.
The daily-fee course, which opened in 2005, spans 110 acres of a 350-acre complex that includes a jogging trail and parks, and though Casper is unlikely ever to be a big draw to tourists, it's well-used by the local community during the April through October golf season.
