The idea is to reach out to these students who are on the verge of deciding whether to work for a company or the government or do something alternative and inspire them that there are these other options; organic farming, alternative technologies and so on, and then to present concrete options for a leap year or for after college to build a kind of Earth corps of people who networked together.
But in the age of the Internet, in a hectic holiday season, there is another straight-from-the-farm option: sitting at your computer and dialing up a tree.
Take an example situation where we are interested in building a farming-system-scale model that can predict the effect of different farm management options regarding agricultural land-use rotations on the long-term profitability of an area of land, such as a field.
