In education, the perception that "every dollar counts" has pitted groups against one another in a time when falling resources should actually be making us all more resourceful.
"Sure, we had falling resources," said Dr. Gary M. Henschen, the chief medical officer of Charter Behavioral, which is based in Alpharetta, Ga.
"This sort of game-playing is just what the NHS does not need when it is under huge pressure from rising patient demand and falling resources".
Concern about falling resources prices heightened on Friday after the release of weak credit data from China, the world's biggest consumer of industrial commodities.
"These figures should serve as a serious wake up call to the government, and highlight the significant impact that increasing demand, recruitment issues, and falling resources are having on NHS staff.
"GPs face increasingly challenging and stressful work environments, due to a combination of increasing demand and falling resources," said Dr Richard Vautrey, deputy chair of the British Medical Association's GP committee.
While action must be taken to ensure safety if poor care is uncovered, "the vast majority of patients receive world-class care despite the NHS being under enormous pressure from rising patient demand and falling resources".
But he added: "Many GP practices are struggling to cope with a combination of government targets, falling resources and rising workload".
During periods of extended labour-market weakness, as in the weak recovery after the 2008 09 Great Recession, falling resources per jobseeker can be a particular concern as independent job-search is more difficult when unemployment is high.
Deflation, even the relatively benign sort caused by falling resource prices, carries plenty of economic risks.
