Subsequent studies revealed that sister chromatid cohesion genes fall into functional classes (Table 1).
In AML, there is a relatively well-defined set of recurrent mutations, most of which fall into functional categories (Fig. 2) (The Cancer Genome Atlas Research Network, 2013).
In particular, sets of genes fall into functional classes encompassing the 7 previously reported GLC7 SSL interactions, which are chromatin remodeling, chromosome segregation/cytokinesis, and nutrient sensing/metabolism.
Moreover, putative associating partners identified for each of the three core components fell into functional categories such as DNA damage repair, ubiquitination, chromosome cohesion, chromatin modification/remodeling, DNA replication, cell cycle and transcription regulation, nucleotide metabolism, RNA processing, and nuclear transport.
Importantly, these genes fell into functional categories of well-established features of platelet physiology, such as vesicle trafficking.
Genes and proteins identified fell into functional categories of metabolism, cell cycle and DNA processing, protein fate, cellular transport, cellular communication and signal transduction, and cell rescue.
In contrast, genes whose expression positively correlated with expression of the antagonists fell into functional networks that included various forms of developmental processes and cellular growth and metabolism.
These genes fell into functional pathways which associated with cell death, cellular movement, cellular growth and proliferation, cell-to-cell signalling and interaction, and lipid metabolism.
Ingenuity integrated pathway analysis (IPA) revealed that genes whose expression positively correlated with expression of the agonists fell into functional networks that were consistent with cell cycle regulation and DNA replication.
A high proportion of sequences fell into functional classes related to posttranscriptional modification and signal transduction, while transcription factors and genes involved in the metabolism of sugars, cell-wall synthesis and lignification, and cold hardiness were among other classes of genes identified as having a potential role in xylem formation and seasonal wood formation.
The remaining three genes are involved in various functions that do not fall into obvious functional groups.
