Examination of the relative contributions of changes in blood pressure, cholesterol, and smoking status among patients whose overall Framingham-calculated risk decreased (ie, improved) by at least one category during the survey indicated that lower blood pressure was considerably the largest single risk factor alteration associated with the reduction in CHD risk.
