Twenty-four stuseds used computer- or video-based tasks, with the only exceptions being Vickers and Williams [23] study which measured "quiet eye" durations in biathletes as a perceptual outcome (for more information and a review on quiet eye literature, see [24]) and the study by Elsworthy et al. [25] in which decision-making performance was measured in real-game situations.
Out of the nine studies using a specific perceptual-cognitive task, three considered reaction times and error rates [20, 44, 45], five measured only accuracy [25 27, 46, 47], and the study by Vickers and Williams [23] measured "quiet eye" durations in biathletes as a perceptual outcome.
Using an innovative testing framework across three different categories of advertisers, we found the larger units outperformed the smaller units on almost every meaningful metric: eye fixation duration length, in-unit engagement, ad recall, and even fewer frowns.
Attention (measured as total eye-fixation duration and eye-visit count, with the number of words per subcomponent controlled) was associated with inter-rater reliability: Organization (the second category) received the most attention (slightly more than the first, content).
