Addressing Extreme Propensity Scores via the Overlap Weights.
The popular inverse probability weighting method in causal inference is often hampered by extreme propensity scores, resulting in biased estimates and excessive variance.
Two possible solutions for extreme propensity score weights due to model misspecification are to improve the specification of propensity score models, and to reduce the impact of extreme weights through trimming [13], [14].
However, given the lack of strong resolution in the trees, the major changes in evolutionary rates like the one in vertebrates, and the extreme propensity of the AANAT family for gene loss, scenarios that involve unusual routes of horizontal transfer should be addressed with much caution.
Yet, the following observations suggest a prominent contribution of Nup98 FG domains: (i) their extreme propensity to form selective barriers on their own (this study), (ii) their IDP-untypical evolutionary conservation (this study), (iii) their high copy numbers (Ori et al., 2013), and (iv) their capacity to restore a selective permeability barrier in FG Nup-depleted NPCs (Hülsmann et al., 2012).
After restricting the analysis to patients newly dispensed statins within 90 days of a hospitalisation for myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary artery bypass graft, or percutaneous coronary intervention, and after trimming the 10% of patients with the most extreme propensity scores, there were 136 936 patients who remained eligible for further analysis.

These weights are bounded and thus bypass the problem of extreme propensities.
For the 21 mutations in the patient data sets we analyzed, two mutations were categorized as exhibiting extreme aggregation propensity, 12 of the mutations fit criteria for high-aggregation propensity, six fit criteria as moderate and one fits criteria for low aggregation propensity (see Supplementary Material, Table S1).
Recombinant production of IAPP is, however, difficult due to its extreme aggregation propensity.
To our knowledge, no protocol for the recombinant production of Aβ(1 42 E22G has been reported to date, possibly due to the extreme aggregation propensity of this peptide variant.
As a consequence of their extreme toxicity and propensity to bioaccumulate, PCDD/Fs have been subjected to much scientific research, designed to understand mechanisms and conditions that govern their emission rates and congener distribution (fingerprints).
