Published streptococcal and other 16S rRNA sequences were extracted from EMBL using proprietary extraction methods based on sequence profiles and annotation searches; representative sequences for each species were determined using a proprietary algorithm developed by SmartGene for bacterial 16S rRNA sequences (SmartGene IDNS™ Bacteria Module).
