East African Rift System, also called Afro-Arabian Rift Valley, one of the most extensive rifts on the Earth's surface, extending from Jordan in southwestern Asia southward through eastern Africa to Mozambique.
The fragmentation of Madagascar, Laxmi Ridge/Seychelles and Seychelles from the Indian plate was associated with extensive rifting activities (Storey et al. 1995; Chatterjee et al. 2013).
