Swing speed (a), stance duration (b), swing duration (c) and print area (d) were significantly altered after 6-OHDA injection.
Both CF swing speed and CF swing duration (Fig. 5) correlated strongly with dopamine depletion severity (R = −0.81, p = 0.0007 and R = 0.77, p = 0.0023, respectively).
Increased CF swing duration was found to correlate with a decrease in ipsilesional RFA metabolism (R = −0.59, p = 0.0355).
The following parameters were measured: average speed, body speed for each paw, swing duration, stance duration, stride length, print area and cadence (number of steps per second).
Individual limb movements and interlimb coordination were calculated as follows: Inverse of stride duration x displacement of single limb during swing phase divided by swing duration.
Within species, swing duration tends to remain relatively constant across running speeds (Gatesy & Biewener 1991).
This velocity dependence of swing duration has not been simulated by Walknet.
(2) We calculated the forward trajectory for each paw using a constant swing velocity model given by the stride length divided by the swing duration.
For each walk of an animal, the mean was calculated per paw for print area, stance and swing duration.
From our data, we find that swing duration surpasses stance duration at a duty factor of 0.5, which corresponds to a speed of 52.8 cm/s (Fig. 3f).
In contrast, in our data set, we observed that above ~50 cm/s, swing duration is longer than stance phase duration, consistent with recent results [ 33].
