Various aspects of energy security, such as diversification, lower dependency, supplier export capacity, minimizing the import cost, transport distance and political instability associated with each of the foreign natural gas suppliers, were incorporated in the decision-making model for a foreign natural gas import scheme for the years 2015 2020.
Russia is not yet an important export market or supplier to the United States directly -- it accounts for less than 1percentt of American trade annually -- and it has received only $5 billion in direct American investment over the last decade, one-eighth of the figure for China.
Russia is already Europe's biggest gas supplier, exporting 120 billion cubic meters, or 4.2 trillion cubic feet, there in 2010, around a quarter of demand.
The other suppliers export much lower volumes.

"The manufacturing industry has been one of the biggest losers with LNG exports allowing gas suppliers to drive up prices to Australian users, and suppliers exercising their market power keep Australian prices high even as global prices collapsed," Ogge said.
Sharp, for instance, fears that suppliers will export its hard-won manufacturing know-how along with their capital equipment.
The affected batches of almond cake with chocolate and butterscotch all came from the same Swedish supplier which exports to stores across the world, Ikea said.
