DUBLIN (Reuters) — Ireland's economy returned to modest growth in the third quarter as a strong export performance compensated for depressed domestic consumption, data on Thursday showed.
The Fraser of Allander Institute cited the UK government's austerity programme and a weak export performance as reasons for the "anaemic" recovery.
"The reduced number of exporting firms, their relatively small size, as well as factors relating to the business environment are also impediments for export performance," the report said.
China's entry into the world economy considerably dampened the hopes that NAFTA had raised for Mexican export performance, but by now there are clear signs that US Mexican integration continues apace.

As indicated in Table 5, declining commodity prices are one of the main reasons for Indonesias poor export performance in recent years.

Lee Hopley, chief economist at manufacturers' organisation the EEF, said the strong export performance last year – including a 44% increase in car exports, for example – provided some cause for optimism.
