R2 values are much greater for each individual quadrant compared with a single regression although some scatter is still noted (Table 1), but are similar for both power-law (Figure 4C) and exponential (Figure 4D) regression.
Samples were withdrawn depending on the growth phase from each culture in the exponential (Figure 1a: 385-440 Klett units (KU), Figure 1b: 300-400 KU), the early stationary and the stationary growth phase, and were quantified for their polyester contents by gas chromatography analysis.
Frequency distributions of travel speeds appeared to be approximately log-normal or exponential (Figure S1; 'average' travel speed implies the average speed during an individual's migration, not an average of individuals).

The simulation signal is presented in Figure 8d, where the profile is composed of main profile simulated by exponential function (Figure 8a), pavement distress (Figure 8b) and white Gaussian noise (SNR = 8db).
Incorporating the effect of movement restrictions on transmission between farms had little effect on the model predictions using a Gaussian kernel (Figure 4A and 4B and Figure 5) and only a small effect on those using an exponential kernel (Figure 4C and 4D and Figure 5).
In the case of a fat-tailed kernel, the model still predicted higher numbers of clinical and affected holdings than were observed, though to a lesser extent than without restrictions (Figure 4E and 4G and Figure 5), while in the case of the FMD kernel, the model predictions more closely matched those with either the Gaussian or exponential kernels (Figure 4G and 4H and Figure 5).
Under a constant injection rate, the temporal pattern of ground deformation shows an exponential increase (Figure 12).
