Compared to CDI, we believe that CSSA offer some interesting advantages: i) it does not depend on the antibody used and can be thus exploited to compare PrPSc conformational stability in different species, ii) the proof that CDI is able to discriminate prion strains in natural hosts is still lacking, while here we show the potential of CSSA to be used in human and sheep natural isolates.
