Because the demand side doesn't offer immediate explanations, we must look to the supply side for answers.
Among other explanations, we considered the possibility that people are frightened or nauseated by the prospect of endless leisure.
To examine other potential explanations, we relied on standard measures of education, employment, income, partisanship, ideology, economic perceptions, gender, employment, marital status, residential context and region.
Thus, if people's political beliefs generally have cognitive explanations, we should expect a very strong correlation between being pro-life and being pro-animal-rights.
It is the first of a score of explanations we will be given over the next days and weeks, but I don't know that yet.
