To quote Wilson, the humanities "are rootless in their explanations of causation". To account for racism, for instance, humanities scholars propose various theories of "othering," the practice of labeling and excluding persons who don't fit the norms of a particular social group.
However, the study does not provide explanations of causation – are a person's internal motivators the drive for engaging in the program or, does participation result in increased motivation?
