The experience of this study is that the VisuLands framework is a useful tool in landscape analysis, monitoring and planning, which provides a repeatable, systematic and transparent approach with strong links to landscape theory.
Such low diagnostic yield from BAL may pertain to the number of patients receiving prophylaxis or empirical therapy, to the number of AHSCT recipients in whom all diagnostic tests are less efficient and to the experience of this study group used to manage hematology patients using noninvasive diagnostic tests.
However, the experience of this study has demonstrated some of the difficulties in implementing an evaluation of 'real life' educational intervention using such an experimental design.
Evidence shows that local leadership enhances the implementation of new practices [ 35], which is consistent with the programmatic experience of this study.
However, given the experience of this study, such data would be further enhanced by capturing information related to domestic travel, underlying medical conditions, antacid or antibiotic use, and occupational information.
Based on our experiences of conducting this study, we believe that perhaps following up the cases of maternal deaths using a social autopsy approach might be a further route to gain acute perspectives on the lived experience of care seeking in obstetric emergencies as well as on maternal mortality.
