The objective of the guideline which is summarized in this short communication is to provide the reader with a collection of applicable assessment methods which have been evaluated by a group of experts against keywords like applicability, expenditure of time/cost, validity of results and possible constraints.
The aim of this study was to examine the criterion validity of energy expenditure from physical activity recorded with the IPAQ-SF in patients with RA compared with the objective criterion measure, the SenseWear Armband (SWA) which has been validated previously in this population.
Patient reporting on income, expenditure, and time may suffer from validity problems due to recall bias.
Although the ACG [ 22, 23], and CRG systems were developed to measure health status, their validity in explaining pharmaceutical expenditure has also been demonstrated [ 24– 26].
Validity of armband energy expenditure estimates has been reported in several conditions including resting, exercise (ie treadmill and cycle ergometry), and free-living conditions (ie physical activity and exercise) [ 27- 29].
The questionnaire has been shown to have good validity in comparison with energy expenditure measured by the doubly labelled water method [ 30].
Nevertheless, although the technique has rarely been used, it is a potentially important source of valuation estimates as it gives theoretically correct estimates that are gained from actual expenditures and which thus have high criterion validity.
Hence, validity of the monitors against energy expenditure should not be a major concern when assessing agreement between these devices.
Doubly-labeled water method can accurately evaluate total energy expenditure and can be use for assessing the validity of reported total energy intake [ 21, 22].
Our results show that the DLW method is reproducible in longitudinal studies and confirm the validity of this method to measure energy expenditure, define energy intake prescriptions, and monitor adherence and body composition changes over the period of 2.5-4.4 2.5-4.4
