BJ's Wholesale Club said Wednesday that full-year earnings would fall below analysts' estimates as it expected merchandise sales to be less than it previously forecast.

By contrast, a traditional apparel merchant can have a six to nine month design-to-rack process, although the pace is quickening for many, as consumers have been trained to expect fresher merchandise more frequently in stores.

The analyst has increased slightly his first-quarter estimate this year to 45 cents a share from 44 cents, while still expecting general merchandise sales being affected by the difficult fourth-quarter numbers.
