The Middle Eastern exemplars include Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in Tunisia, Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, Muammar el-Qaddafi in Libya, Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen, and Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
The Department for Communities and Local Government would, anyway, judging by its recent Starter Homes Design guide, whose depressingly regimented exemplars include Prince Charles's retro-themed Poundbury – nice orderly streets, neoclassical and traditional details, nothing to frighten the horses.
